Branching out on the family tree

What an incredible experience it is when God opens His heart within mine, and I see with my own eyes the majestic power of His church, united in One spirit. It’s truly supernatural!

Karina and I have traveled up to Canada to explore new branches on the family tree. Not only my own literal next of kin but the family of God as a whole. It’s been a joy to find new friends and family fully engaged in our story of Gods work at the Nest. As well it’s been very surreal to stand alongside my parents and see them work with me in sharing the goodness of God in the fruits of the Nest. Wow what a transformation that only a miracle could explain.

Sometimes seeking new partners in our missionary work is scary and daunting, but as ambassadors and eyewitnesses of the labor of love and the blessings of God, we’re really just conduits or messengers. We serve a living, active God that is busy accomplishing His good will. In a current world state of chaotic upheaval, I believe stories like the Nest and countless others are an opportunity to encourage everyone to keep up the good fight, that love can and will overcome evil.

With each new presentation we give, new branches spring to life, and it feels great to spread the word of what is happening in our little patch of jungle so so far away.

Do I miss the Nest? Absolutely, I miss my BriBri friends and the community of workers all striving together under the mission. But I will say, that I don’t miss the heat & humidity. The weather here in the Canadian summer is such a relief, truly delightful.

Our focus for this year’s deputation is to raise the funds necessary to pay our staff a fair wage for their work. Each of them are missionaries in their own right, our children’s directors, our youth outreach team, the farm workers and carpenters. They each have their own families to feed and care for, yet they don’t have any means of networking and raising support. So Karina and I are out here working on their behalf.

And while we’re busy here on this endeavor, elsewhere the churches that support us in the States are working on a big fundraising campaign in order for us to bring a large solar electricity project so we can have reliable power at the Nest and finally turn the lights on!

As always, we are in a sprint trying to keep up with what God is doing down there in Costa Rica. We live in a state of gratitude and surrender, joyfully sharing the burden with God in bringing the light of hope into dark places.

Will you join us?

With love and gratitude
